Two Friends with a Passion for Beer

Mark and Paul, the founders of Harpoon Brewing, have always had a deep love for beer. From their early days of homebrewing in their college dorm rooms to their countless visits to local breweries, their passion for the craft has only grown stronger over the years.

They were constantly experimenting with different ingredients and techniques, always striving to create unique and flavorful beers. Their dedication and hard work paid off when they finally perfected their first brew, a rich and hoppy IPA that quickly became a local favorite.

But it wasn’t just about the beer for Mark and Paul. They wanted to build a community of beer lovers who could come together and share their passion. They opened a taproom where people could gather, enjoy a pint, and engage in lively conversations about all things beer.

In addition to the taproom, Mark and Paul also started hosting events and festivals to bring people together and celebrate their love for craft beer. They believed that beer had the power to unite people and wanted to create a space where everyone felt welcome.

Through their brewery, Mark and Paul also found ways to give back to the community. They partnered with local charities and organizations, donating a portion of their profits to support causes they believed in.

Mark and Paul’s journey with Harpoon Brewing is a testament to their passion, dedication, and love for beer. They have created a brand that not only produces exceptional beers but also fosters a sense of community and gives back to those in need.

The Journey Begins

Part of our daily routine was to start each day with a traditional English breakfast then head out by bus, tube, and train to the neighborhood we would be exploring. The term “Mind the Gap” was announced and written everywhere to heed as a precaution to the wary traveler to step carefully when entering and exiting these various modes of transportation or pay the consequence.

Inspired by the memories of our trip, Owen and the Athentic Brew Crew collaborated to create our version of a Dark English Mild, appropriately called Mind the Gap. The release is Friday, November 18th at the Athentic Taproom, where we will usher in the festivities by raffling an opportunity for someone to tap a cask at 6PM. Come join us for a fun evening and we will share with you more great memories from our trip! Cheers! Paul Return to News September

Finding the Perfect Location

When it comes to finding the perfect location for a brewery, there are a few key factors to consider. First and foremost, you want a place that is easily accessible to beer lovers. Whether it’s in the heart of a bustling city or tucked away in a charming neighborhood, the location should be convenient and inviting.

Another important aspect is the size of the space. A brewery requires ample room for brewing equipment, storage, and a taproom. It’s essential to find a location that can accommodate all these needs while still maintaining a cozy and welcoming atmosphere.

Additionally, the surrounding community plays a significant role. A supportive and beer-loving community can help a brewery thrive. It’s important to choose a location where locals are enthusiastic about craft beer and eager to support local businesses.

Lastly, the ambiance of the location is crucial. A brewery should have a warm and inviting atmosphere that encourages people to gather, relax, and enjoy a pint. From the decor to the lighting, every detail should contribute to creating a comfortable and enjoyable experience for beer enthusiasts.

Crafting Unique and Flavorful Beers

Experimenting with Ingredients

Craft brewers are known for their passion for experimenting with ingredients and techniques to create unique and flavorful beers. This movement emphasizes the importance of taste and character in craft beer. Brewers are constantly pushing the boundaries of traditional brewing methods and exploring new and innovative flavors and styles. They are not afraid to think outside the box and use unconventional ingredients to create beers that stand out from the crowd.

The Art of Brewing

The art of brewing is a delicate balance between science and creativity. It requires a deep understanding of the brewing process, from selecting the finest ingredients to carefully controlling fermentation temperatures. Every step of the way, brewers must make decisions that will ultimately shape the flavor and character of the beer.

One important aspect of brewing is the use of different yeast strains. Yeast plays a crucial role in the fermentation process, converting sugars into alcohol and carbon dioxide. Different yeast strains can produce different flavors and aromas, adding complexity to the final product.

Another key factor in brewing is the choice of hops. Hops not only contribute bitterness to balance the sweetness of the malt, but they also add aroma and flavor. Brewers carefully select hops with specific characteristics to achieve the desired profile for their beer.

In addition to yeast and hops, water quality is also important in brewing. The mineral content of the water can affect the pH of the mash and the overall flavor of the beer. Some breweries even go as far as adjusting their water to mimic the mineral profiles of famous brewing regions.

To ensure consistency and quality, brewers meticulously follow recipes and keep detailed records of each batch. They monitor fermentation progress, take gravity readings, and taste samples throughout the process. This attention to detail allows them to make adjustments and fine-tune the beer to perfection.

Crafting a great beer is truly an art form. It requires passion, creativity, and a deep understanding of the brewing process. Each brewer brings their own unique style and vision to the craft, resulting in a diverse and exciting range of beers for beer lovers to enjoy.

Innovative Flavors and Styles

When it comes to innovative flavors and styles, Harpoon Brewing has truly pushed the boundaries of what beer can be. With a passion for experimentation, they have crafted unique brews that are sure to delight even the most discerning beer connoisseur.

One standout beer is their Citrus Infusion IPA. This refreshing brew combines the bright flavors of citrus fruits with the hoppy bitterness of an IPA. It’s the perfect balance of fruity and bitter, making it a favorite among IPA lovers.

But Harpoon Brewing doesn’t stop at just one innovative beer. They have a whole lineup of exciting and adventurous brews. From their Mango Habanero Ale that packs a spicy punch to their Chocolate Stout that satisfies any sweet tooth, there’s something for everyone.

If you’re looking to try something truly unique, be sure to check out their limited edition Barrel-Aged Sour. This complex and tart beer is aged in oak barrels, giving it a rich and distinctive flavor profile.

So whether you’re a fan of traditional styles or crave something more adventurous, Harpoon Brewing has you covered. Their commitment to pushing the boundaries of flavor and style is what sets them apart in the craft beer world.

Building a Community of Beer Lovers

Creating a Welcoming Taproom

One of the key aspects of Harpoon Brewing’s success is their commitment to creating a welcoming taproom. When you step into their taproom, you’re immediately greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The space is designed to make you feel right at home, with cozy seating areas and a friendly staff ready to help you navigate their extensive beer menu.

But it’s not just the ambiance that sets Harpoon Brewing’s taproom apart. They also offer a unique self-serve beer wall experience. This innovative concept allows customers to pour their own beers from a selection of taps. It’s like having your own personal bartender, but with the freedom to explore different flavors and styles at your own pace.

To make the self-serve experience even more convenient, Harpoon Brewing has implemented a card system. Customers receive a card with a chip that keeps track of how much beer they’ve poured. This eliminates the need to constantly pay for each individual pour and allows customers to focus on enjoying their beer.

And if you’re not sure which beer to try, don’t worry. Harpoon Brewing has screens above the taps that list what’s being poured at each one. You can simply touch the screen to reveal a description of the beer, including its ABV (alcohol by volume) and price per ounce. It’s a helpful tool for those who want to learn more about the beers before making a decision.

So whether you’re a seasoned beer enthusiast or just starting to explore the world of craft beer, Harpoon Brewing’s taproom is the perfect place to relax, socialize, and discover new flavors.
